Episode 6: The Southern Colonies part 1: Virginia

Today we begin our discussion of the Southern colonies, starting off with Virginia. We will touch on the Virginia Company, Jamestown and how Virginia was actually first in many regards, contrary to the conventional wisdom which tends to place New England at the forefront of the colonies.

    Hey Shawn, I enjoy the podcast, but noticed an oversight in episode 6. While John Smith
    may (or may not have) popularized the phrase “If a man will not work, neither let him eat” in Jamestown, that phrase goes back to the Bible, which I’m sure John Smith would have been quoting if he used that phrase.

      I never meant to say that he invented the phrase. He certainly was referring back to the bible. If I didnt’ make it clear I apologize for that. 🙂
